Reviews

What homeowners say.

5.0 on Thumbtack (40 reviews), Google and Yelp

  • “Great experience working with [the Black Bear team]. Their mighty crew was professional, punctual, and very skilled. It’s very obvious they take pride in their work, which shows in perfectly aligned corners, clean cuts, clean workspace, and very respectful demeanor. The pricing was competitive compared to four other quotes.”

  • “They completed my rooftop deck—over 630 sq. ft. including the stairs and lighting—in about a week, and I’m very happy with how everything turned out. … One thing I really appreciated was how transparent [the owner] was with the pricing. He clearly explained the material, labor, and waste costs, so there were no surprises.”

    Sam C. · Thumbtack, August 2026

  • “I am so pleased with my new fence. These guys were so professional and helpful. I feel they really went above and beyond. In the front, there would have been a gap between where my fence ended and it would come to the front corner of my neighbor's, which had been pieced together with scrap. [The owner] and his crew fixed this gap and it looks so perfect.”

Common questions

Good to know.

Straight answers on cost, timing and materials for decks and fences in the Pacific Northwest. Still wondering? Call or text (425) 953-7012.

How much does a new deck cost in Everett and Snohomish County?

It depends on size, height, material and railing. A low cedar platform costs far less than a second-storey composite deck with stairs and cable railing. We come out, measure, and give you one written fixed price, free, so you know the real number for your yard before anything starts.

How long does it take to build a deck?

Most decks take one to two weeks on site once materials are in. Larger multi-level decks, covers or permitted builds can take longer; we give you the schedule with the estimate.

Composite or cedar: which should I choose?

Composite costs more up front but needs no staining or sealing and won't rot or splinter, which matters in our wet winters. Cedar is warmer and natural, costs less to build, and needs a clean and seal every few years. We build both and will tell you honestly which fits how you use the yard.

Do you build fences and gates too?

Yes. Six-foot cedar privacy fences, horizontal cedar fences and matching gates. Posts are set in concrete and gates are built and hung so they don't sag.

Do you replace or resurface old decks?

Yes. If the framing is sound we can resurface with new boards and railing; if it isn't, we tear out and rebuild. We check the structure during the estimate and tell you which one you need.
